Teeth Whitening in Cincinnati OH
Celebrating over 90 Years of Creating lifelong relationships with our patients and their families.
We recommend teeth whitening because it is the easiest way to transform your smile. Teeth become dull, yellow, and stained due to age and what you eat and drink, such as coffee, tea, wine, and foods that contain food coloring. Smoking can also stain your teeth. Brushing immediately after eating and drinking can help to reduce stains.
Whitening toothpaste can help brighten your teeth but does not whiten them. After professional whitening, the toothpaste can help your teeth stay bright.
Over-the-counter whitening trays or strips are not as strong as what you can get from a medical professional. Professional whitening can brighten your smile up to eight shades lighter. That is six shades lighter than over-the-counter whitening products. Additionally, over-the-counter whitening trays are one-size-fits-all. They can become loose and allow the solution to leak. Overuse of over-the-counter bleaching can also lead to the destruction of enamel and dentin.
Natural teeth bleaching solutions use an acid such as lemons and limes. These natural solutions can erode tooth enamel.
Dr. Peck’s professional tooth whitening solutions penetrate through the enamel to remove stains. We offer in-office whitening treatments or customized at-home trays. In-office treatments take one hour and can be done at the same time as a teeth cleaning or during a separate appointment. After taking an impression of your teeth, a lab makes customized at-home trays. These trays fit securely and will not leak solution.
On occasion, the stains are too strong for a teeth-bleaching procedure to work. When this happens, we can provide an alternative treatment. For example, we can place porcelain veneers on the surface of teeth to cover dark stains. Veneers are often preferable for smokers since veneers are stain resistant and won’t yellow quickly like natural teeth. Still, it is wise to try a teeth whitening procedure before starting a cosmetic one.
Teeth Whitening
If you want to enhance or restore the brilliance of your smile, call us to schedule an appointment for more information about teeth whitening procedures available to you.
We also recommend that patients have their teeth whitened before having other dental procedures completed. Most of the materials that are used in dental restorations or for cosmetic purposes are stain-resistant and bleach-resistant. When a lab creates a crown, veneer, bridge, or implant, they make them match the shade of the surrounding teeth. If the surrounding teeth are yellow, the restorations are a yellow shade. If the surrounding teeth are a brilliant white, the restoration will be as well. So, the timing of the teeth whitening procedure is important.

How frequently can I schedule teeth whitening at the dentist?
When you visit our dental office, we will examine your teeth, look for signs of erosion and discuss your overall treatment plan. In most cases, you can have your teeth whitened every six to twelve months if the teeth are healthy. If they are sensitive or eroding, we may recommend that you only have your teeth whitened once per year.
How can I keep my teeth white after a treatment?
To extend the time between whitening, drink plenty of water after drinking beverages such as coffee, tea, and wine. Brush your teeth after every meal or after foods that stain, and avoid food or drinks that have food coloring or are acidic, full of tannins, etc.
Dr. Peck and his staff are friendly, caring and knowledgeable! They make sure you are comfortable and know everything you’re getting done. In the past, I have really dreaded going to the dentist… and now I can say I’ve FINALLY found a dentist I feel comfortable with and confident in!!

Teeth whitening should not cause any discomfort and is relatively easy to complete. Before getting started, we recommend that patients have a dental exam. We will examine your teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy enough for whitening. If any cavities or infections exist, we treat them first. To learn more or to get started, call to schedule your appointment.
